Product Description
The Dale Earnhardt Memorial Pilgrimage is the last trip Judge Bekasu Holifield would have chosen for her vacation. But this year it's her sister Justine's turn to make their plans, and soon Bekasu's boarding a silver cruise bus for a tour of Southern stock car speedways with Justine, their cousin Cayle, and a group of strangers-all of whose lives have somehow been touched by the legendary racer they never met... For Shane McKee, the tour is a chance to get married at the speedway with his hero there in spirit. New York stockbroker Terence Palmer has made the trip to honor his only link with the father he never knew. Rev. Bill Knight, whose hobby is medieval pilgrimages, agrees to chaperone a dying child-and finds himself on a strangely familiar journey of faith and devotion. Bekasu begins connecting with her fellow travelers in unexpected ways. But she's not the only one. As the bus rolls down an uncertain road, prayers will be answered, secrets will be revealed, bonds will be forged, and no one will leave this journey of self-discovery quite the same.

4 out of 5 stars Very surprised that I really liked it   August 23, 2010
Pushing 60 (Maryland)
There's no rhyme or reason why this book is so appealing because there's no way to give a description that sounds interesting. A disparate group of travelers sets out to tour racetracks in the south and end up bonding during this journey. No one becomes the dominant character; each becomes likable in a unique way. I finished this yesterday and honestly don't know why it was so captivating...perhaps this is book that will take a while to sort out. Read it...it's like no other.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent story and excellent research   August 22, 2010

Three things to lve about this book are all that need to be said:

1. The characters are all wonderfully developed. None are too good to be tru...all have flaws. But all of them make you want to sit next to them and listen to their stories. Each one has a good side to them as well.

2. Ms. McCrumb captures the heart of a die-hard NASCAR fan. The title is not far fetched...there are fans who would consider Dale Earnhardt a saint. She captures this attude brilliantly. Not to mention she paints a wonderful picture of the history of the sport.

3. As you read this story you feel that you are a part of it...laying the wreaths at the track...feeling as you can help the ex-driver get back to the circuit...just wanting to help the young man who just lost the dad he barely knew....a rich and wonderful story.

5 out of 5 stars st dale was a joy   August 16, 2010

Not a fan of NASCAR, but LOVED this book! Perhaps it was just what I needed, no violence, suspense, sex or murder. It was a relaxing, fun ride on a tour bus with some really interesting people. This was well written. Loved how it all came together at the end, how they were all connected. I learned also about stock car racing and the different tracks also. Can't say enough how much I enjoyed this book! Relax and enjoy!!
Rubbin is Racin!!

5 out of 5 stars Loved it!   August 12, 2010

I bought the book not really knowing that it was about racing. I'm not a fan myself, but I got hooked into the book right off the bat and could not put it down.

1 out of 5 stars Only for Dale fans   August 11, 2010
I tried to keep an open mind and kept reading but half way through, I threw in the towel. Probably be more interesting if you were a Dale E fan or at least into Nascar...otherwise all the trivia included made for a very boring read.
